AUBURN, Indiana (WANE) – On October 20, officials from the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water named Indiana’s best tasting rural water: Auburn Water Department.
Participating water samples are judged according to three categories: clarity, odor and taste. The competition is part of the Quality On Tap! campaign to highlight the high quality, standards and taste of rural water. Regional winners were: City of Osgood, City of Akron, Auburn Water Utility and City of Madison.
As the winner, Auburn Water Department will participate in the Great American Water Taste Test, a national competition in Washington, DC, in early February 2022. The alliance has declared the event part of the Rural Water Rally, an annual legislative convention. event for the 49 state affiliates of the National Rural Water Association.
“Because of the quality of this water, Indiana has a good chance of participating in the national taste test in Washington, DC,” said Connie Stevens, executive director of the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water.
The Alliance of Indiana Rural Water is a nonprofit association of more than 800 water and sanitation systems and related professionals. It provides on-site training and technical assistance on drinking water law compliance issues, public health protection (with respect to drinking water), management issues, financial issues and operational issues with Indiana’s water and sanitation systems that have a population of less than 10,000. Training and on-site work are supported by federal contracts and grants that promote safe water for our communities.
