Maharashtra Education Department Forms Panel to Launch Online University
NEW DELHI: Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Department has formed a committee to establish an âonlineâ university due to the pandemic situation and the learning process being switched to online mode, the Indian Express reported.
The panel was formed under the chairmanship of former Savitribai Phule Pune University vice-chancellor RK Shegaonkar, according to the report.

The committee will work on the study of the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as well as on the structure of online universities set up in countries abroad, and will recommend a framework for the creation of a such online university in the state.
The committee was instructed to examine whether another Indian state has established such a university and to study its structure.

He was also tasked with studying all aspects of setting up an online university such as the curriculum, course delivery, study materials, teaching staff and their degrees as well as the necessary training, centers studies and their structures, human resources, infrastructure, exams and exam results, courses offered at online universities, distance education programs, course length and fees, etc. , according to the report.
The education department has given the panel six months to submit its suggestions, after which a new decision will be made, the report said.

Meanwhile, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has authorized two institutions to offer online degree programs for the November 2021 session. UGC has published the list of eligible higher education institutions (HEIs) on the basis of applications received.
Manav Rachna International Research and Studies Institute, Faridabad (reputed to be a university) and GLA University, Mathura (private university) have been included to offer open and distance learning programs and online programs for the 2021-22 academic session.
