Massanutten Technical Center holds auction to raise funds for students

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – The Massanutten Technical Center is a vocational and technical center that equips students with skills in a range of fields from plumbing and mechanics, to building maintenance and culinary arts.

“From day one they didn’t know what a certain tool was until now, they can choose the tools they need themselves and use them with care. Use them with a lot of knowledge. It’s just a great feeling to watch them grow into young men and women, ”said TCM instructor Jerry Arbogast.

Students spend the year repairing and building a number of items for an annual auction. All the money raised during the auction is directly reinvested in the program.

“It’s been a skill compilation for almost two years because last year due to COVID we weren’t lucky enough to have our auction so the kids got to do a little extra work. “said MTC deputy director Chris Dalton.

The students of Arbogast’s building maintenance course have built a small house which is for sale.

The little house has a full bathroom, a loft and a kitchen area.(WHSV)

“In the last couple of years of being here it’s actually pretty awesome here,” said Dakoda Albright.

Albright is in his second year at MTC. He helped paint and build the house. He also recently participated in a trade and technical skills competition.

In addition to the little house, there are cars, a tractor and even a motorbike to be won. Registrations will be made on site and the auction will begin at 5 p.m.
