For the fourth consecutive year, the Waldo County Technical Center (WCTC) will be the recipient of three scholarships generously donated by the Riley H. Boulay Memorial Scholarship Fund. High school students from Mount View, Belfast and Searsport high schools who attend WCTC and will be attending college next year are eligible for scholarships of $2,000 and $1,000, respectively.
These funds are raised through the annual Riley’s Wish Ice Fishing Derby and Winter Games event in Liberty, in honor of Mount View High School and WCTC alumnus Riley Boulay. Riley loved the great outdoors and all the activities that came with them; from baseball to ice fishing. He also loved taking the electrical trades program at WCTC, where he was a student at the time of his death in December 2017.
The fifth annual Riley’s Wish event will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the Liberty Public Boat Launch. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and weigh-in is at 3 p.m.
There will be sweatshirts for sale, designed by WCTC graphic design graduate Ilana Currier, who is now an employee of the school. Derby/raffle tickets, hot food and beverages will also be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund. There will be five derby winners (adults and under 12s) with over $1,000 in prize money.
